Rameswaram is a most ancient holy place in south India. It is a place for both Saivates and Vaishnavates located in the state of Tamil Naru possessing a distance of 160 kms from Madurai.

The hereditary habit of worshipping the god in three forms namely “Moorthy, Sthalam and theertham’ in India has been worshiped in common figure incase of Rameswaram. Rameswaram is considered as one of the twelve Jyothir Lingams in India.

Rameswaram is situated in the North-East of Pamban and Dhanuskodi in South-East of Pamban. The Dhanuskodi Railway line was destructed in the cyclone from Pamban station.

At present one can reach Dhanuskodi on foot along the sea shore or by Buses and Jeeps or by Boats. The Rameswaram Island is found in the shape of the shell one of the two instruments in the hands of Sri Vishnu who took the avatar of Sri Rama.

The ceiling is supported by stone beams of 49 feet long. The sanctum is built of polished granite stones. One of the wonders of the world is third corridors of the temple in all measuring about 4000 feet length.

 

Rameswaram contains many theerthams each one is associated with some God or Saint.
