Legend tells us that Herculean instituted the first games about 1253 b.c. history evidence supports the view that the games started before 884 b.c and documentary records of events and winners date from 77 b.c. the ancient Greeks reckoned time by Olympiads, four- year intervals betweens games. Thousands milled around the fabulous stadium of white marble, the hippodrome, the gymnasium, treasure-houses and temple of Olympia.
